The T-100 is an aluminum alloy with hollowed out holes to keep it lightweight with a pleasing aesthetic.  The main frame can be screwed off if you want the writing tip exposed ot the glass breaker exposed.  If you want to keep it in your kit, you won't have to worry about them exploding inside.
